BASEBALL IN 2021?

No one seems to know for sure what the future holds, but even with the current COVID status running in and out of the red zone, EBBA is hoping to offer a modified program this summer.

The constantly changing restrictions brought on by the COVID pandemic have made it impossible to offer our house league program in the same format as in the past. In order to accommodate social distancing and to limit exposure, EBBA is planning to offer a practice-only development program. Players would be assigned to groups of 10 players and would meet twice a week for 10 weeks to practice and develop their baseball skills. All COVID protocols would be followed so that we can provide a safe environment for our players. In order to limit contact with other players, this would mean no games will be scheduled. There will not be a Colman Day event and there will not be a playoff tournament. We also plan to offer a pared down version of our Little Slugger program and a modified T-ball program.

Although it may not be the type of season most of us were hoping for, the board of EBBA feels that player safety is of utmost importance. A development program will allow our players to take to the diamonds again to hone their skills, while keeping them safe within a small group.

In order to facilitate this program, we will need coaches that are willing to run practices twice a week and follow all COVID safety protocols instituted by EBBA, Baseball Ontario and the city of London. We understand that this is quite a tall order, and we can provide help with setting practice drills and routines. We will also provide all the sanitation equipment required. However, WE  NEED VOLUNTEERS TO COACH. Registration will be limited by the number of coaches that sign up. If you are interested in coaching, please contact Laura at lkaufman@ebba.ca.

We are hoping that we can open registration by the beginning of April and start practices in the middle of May. Again, everything is subject to change as the COVID restrictions change. We will send out an email in March outlining registration procedures, program format, costs and dates. First and foremost though, we need volunteers to coach. If we have no volunteers, we will not be able to field teams.

Everyone is eager to get back outside and play (practice) ball. Please make this season possible by volunteering to coach. Contact Laura at lkaufman@ebba.ca to let us know we can count on you to help.

Stay safe and stay warm!!

Best regards from your

EBBA Board of Directors
